How Will Natick Public Schools Handle the New Title IX Rules Around Student Safety, Sex-Based Harassment, Compelled Speech, and Parental Rights?

On September 13, we sent the Natick School Committee a legal brief about the risks and harms associated with the Biden-Harris administration’s new Title IX rules.

We asked the School Committee to address the issues outlined in the legal brief related to the upcoming September 23 School Committee meeting Title IX agenda item to help all parents with children in Natick Public Schools understand the impact to students, staff, and families.

As a follow up to the legal brief, we sent the Natick School Committee the following questions:

  1. How will NPS handle the three Natick Public Schools impacted by the Moms for Liberty injunction?

  2. How will Natick Public Schools uphold free speech protections and religious liberty related to Title IX rewrites, since the government cannot tell students or staff what to believe or to state something they don’t believe? Based on this recent local news article about NPS policies and practices, it sounds like certain students are trying to compel all teachers to use preferred pronouns more often and ask students without gender support plans if their pronouns are only ok to use at school but not at home. Based on the Title IX rewrites, is it true that students and teachers could be accused of sex-based harassment and face disciplinary action if they choose not to use a student’s or staff member’s preferred pronouns?

  3. If NPS implements the new Title IX rules, is it true that NPS would be required to enforce a gender policy that allows the district to conceal a student’s gender identity from his/her parents vs. the current NPS gender policy that isn’t required but that NPS chooses to enforce, which still allows the district to conceal a student’s gender identity from his/her parents (with NPS staff acting as a “transition support team?”)

  4. Are the new Title IX rewrites good for biological girls in Natick Public Schools? How will NPS help protect the privacy and safety of biological girls in spaces like locker rooms and bathrooms and sports and still follow Massachusetts laws?

  5. Considering there is ongoing litigation, potential liability, and fairness for girls at stake, will NPS be taking a “wait and see” approach to implementing Title IX rewrites?

The new Title IX rules give less protections to biological girls and lower the standards for sex-based harassment claims, which impact both boys and girls in Natick Public Schools!

Email the Natick School Committee at schoolcommittee@natickps.org to voice your concerns about the new Title IX rules and the safety and rights of all students, staff, and parents.

Will you also forward this to other concerned Natick parents to join this initiative and sign up to receive our weekly emails?
